SPAN FAQs

University libraries across various regions are increasingly collaborating to manage their print collections in a more coordinated and strategic manner. While electronic books and serials play a central role in today’s academic libraries, the imperative to preserve and maintain access to physical collections remains critical. COPPUL member libraries are actively engaged in shared efforts to ensure the retention of an optimal number of print copies across the consortium. Rather than maintaining complete local holdings, institutions can now depend on the collectively stewarded distributed collection within the SPAN program to effectively support the needs of their students and researchers.
