July 31, 2017 - COPPUL is pleased to
announce the appointment of Corey Davis as COPPUL Digital Preservation Network
Coordinator, for a 3-year term beginning August 1, 2017.
For the past 2 years, Corey has overseen a major COPPUL project to transform its digital preservation efforts into a set of comprehensive, flexible, scalable, and sustainable services. The result has been the creation of the COPPUL Digital Preservation Network. The COPPUL DPN works to build capacity for digital preservation at member institutions by offering world-class preservation infrastructure, education opportunities and advocacy resources, and by connecting local digital preservation activities with regional, national and international efforts.
“As more and more of our cultural memory moves online, archives, libraries and other memory organizations play an important role in preserving what matters to our communities,” said Corey. “The COPPUL DPN is a critical part of this effort in Western Canada. It brings us together and enables us to tackle the complex challenges associated with digital preservation collectively, as a community, and it’s an honour to be part of this ongoing COPPUL effort.”
Corey has been active in academic libraries for 15 years, most recently as Systems Librarian at the University of Victoria, where he oversaw web archiving and digital preservation efforts. He holds a BSc in Greek and Roman Studies from the University of Victoria and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia.
In addition to his work at COPPUL, Corey is active in several national preservation initiatives, as a member of the Portage Preservation Expert Group, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries’ Digital Preservation Working Group, The Dataverse North Working Group, and the CRKN Trusted Digital Repository Task Group. On behalf of COPPUL, he is also involved in several international efforts and collaborations, including the US-based National Digital Stewardship Alliance’s Infrastructure Interest Group.
Corey expressed thanks to everyone in COPPUL who helped create such a strong foundation on which to build, especially the COPPUL DPN Management Committee members, the Executive Director and the Board. He joins COPPUL in thanking Jonathan Bengtson, University Librarian at University of Victoria, for making his secondment to COPPUL possible.
Please join us in welcoming Corey to his new role at COPPUL.
