Announcing new COPPUL Archivematica services: DSpace+ and Pipelines+

Working with lead developers Artefactual Systems, COPPUL is pleased to offer two new innovative services for users of Archivematica-as-a-service: DSpace+ and Pipelines+

DSpace+
The DSpace+ service integrates DSpace with Archivematica-as-a-service to allow users to take advantage of Archivematica as a back-end digital workflow option to support the long-term preservation of DSpace content.

DSpace is a widely-deployed repository tool which allows users to deposit digital content, enhance it with descriptive metadata and provide access online. Archivematica performs preservation actions on digital holdings, implements preservation plans such as format normalization, and generates durable, self-documenting Archival Information Packages (AIPs) for storage. COPPUL’s Archivematica-as-a-Service offering consists of hosted Archivematica instances with storage in Educloud, a geo-redundant cloud storage service administered by the University of British Columbia.

COPPUL members now have the option of using Archivematica-as-a-service in tandem with DSpace to ensure that their repository content is preserved over the long term.

The integration is designed to automatically ingest content (digital objects and their metadata) from institutional DSpace repositories to hosted instances of Archivematica using a specialized automation tool . The service includes installation, configuration, testing and ongoing technical support and user training.

DSpace+ is available for gold or silver service levels only. Costs are $4,000 for the first year and $2,000 for subsequent years, in addition to the costs for Archivematica-as-a-service.

Pipelines+
For users who wish to ingest large volumes of materials with multiple workflows, Archivematica-as-a-service can include one or more extra processing pipelines. Each processing pipeline is an individual Archivematica instance which can be configured to support different workflows. For example, an organization may wish to ingest content automatically from DSpace using one pipeline, and use another pipeline to ingest content from a digitization project. COPPUL, in conjunction with Artefactual, can help institutions determine whether additional pipelines may be suitable for their processing needs.

An annual subscription to Archivematica-as-a-Service includes one processing pipeline. Additional pipelines may be added for $6,500 per pipeline per year, and each additional pipeline comes with 1 TB of storage. The Pipelines+ service is available for gold or silver service levels only.
