Reminder that the COPPUL Indigenous Knowledge Coordinator position will be closing on January 10, 2020!
This is a one-year 0.5 FTE position and may be filled as a contract, intern or secondment opportunity.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Indigenous Knowledge Coordinator will be responsible for helping to advance COPPUL’s current Strategic Directions in the area of Indigenous Knowledge, as well as coordinate the research and development of a 3 year plan for this area.
The Coordinator will collaborate with the COPPUL Indigenous Knowledge Standing Committee to identify and advance strategies that align with COPPUL’s 2019-21 Strategic Directions in the area of Indigenous Knowledge, establishing tasks and timelines in collaboration with COPPUL members and staff. The Coordinator will also contribute to the development of a 3-year operational plan and staffing recommendation for continued goals and initiatives in this area, to be presented to COPPUL Directors for review and decision in 2020.
- Plan and advance work in keeping with COPPUL’s Strategic Directions in Indigenous Knowledge
- Report to and seek engagement from members via written reports and/or webinars
- Support, collaborate with, and be guided by the COPPUL Indigenous Knowledge Standing Committee
- Research and report on other regional/national/international initiatives related to Indigenous Knowledge
- Outreach to/consultation with members as necessary
- Contribute to developing a 3 year plan for the Indigenous Knowledge strategic direction, including staffing recommendations
- Participate in bi-annual member meetings as necessary (travel may be required)
- Collaborate with COPPUL staff and members as required
- Review work plans and mandates of other COPPUL Committees and Working Groups, including topics such as collections and digital preservation. Meet with representatives to understand how the work of these groups may need to draw on and be improved by COPPUL’s Strategic Directions and planning related to Indigenous Knowledge.
- Knowledge and familiarity with work of COPPUL
- Experience working within Indigenous organizations or with Indigenous knowledge traditions
- Demonstrated cultural agility competency
- Proven track record supporting equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on a project from specification to launch; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and work with all levels of staff who possess a wide variety of expertise
- Experience working with cross-organizational and distributed teams
- At least two years’ experience in academic libraries or archives, OR a community or academic research role, OR a cultural heritage sector role (i.e. museums, galleries, digitization), OR a related environment
- Masters-level degree or related combination of education/experience
- Fluency with MS Word, MS Power Point, Google Docs and Google Slides
- Experience with program planning
- Experience with digital project planning tools
- Experience in organizational/strategic planning
- Experience working with Indigenous languages
- Knowledge of academic libraries
